Can all you office workers leave your perfumed fragrant hand lotion at home?

And never re-apply it at work? PS do not re perfume yourself in the ladies room, I need to breathe. I have bills to pay to. I get asthma, sore throats, itchy burning eyes. Can all you office workers leave your perfumed fragrant hand lotion at home?
can you speak top the managers and ask for them to enforce a ';no-perfume'; policy?

It is legal, and I have worked in offices where this policy is stated on the noticeboards - along with the no-smoking policy as well.

I too do not use perfumes and lotions for the same reason. Not for the breathing, but to me the smell is overpowering and distracting.

Otherwise, if management refuses, then you will need to leave and tell them it was because of the perfume.

To Dirk who said that ';of course the whole world revolves around YOU'; - you are not a team player and if I were hiring, I would NOT be hiring you.Can all you office workers leave your perfumed fragrant hand lotion at home?
You need to inform management of your breathing problems so they can handle the issue. Most people realize that perfume and cologne causes distress in persons with respiratory problems, but they never seem to think about the fragranced lotions, hairsprays, even fabric softener. This is a real problem and more people need to be made aware of how dangerous it can be to the health of someone with asthma or other respiratory illnesses.
Interesting question. We have a woman in my office who is newly pregnant and suffering from terrible nausea. A co-worker, on her behalf, sent an interoffice email, requesting that everyone ';go easy'; on perfume and cologne, as well as cooking spicey foods in the lunchroom, in consideration of Jill's condition. Some people were very supportive and said ';okay, sure!'; and others were ';live with it sweetie, you can't be in a bubble';........so all you can do is ask, and hope people respond in a cooperative fashion.
Actually a lot of companies are now going with a ';no fragrance'; policy since so many people are sensitive to overpowering perfume smells. Unfortunately though at this point in time you can only ask the person you sit closest to if they would mind not wearing it since you are allergic.
Have you explained your situation at work in a calm, friendly way? Several of the women in my office use fragrant lotion on their hands, or even burn scented candles. We love the smells.

However, if one were unable to handle the smells, especially due to a health condition, everyone would be considerate about it. If you don't tell us, though, we can't read your mind.
there is no way i would forgo smelling good for you. However, it sounds like you have one of those people that go WAY overboard in your office. Like you can smell them before you see them. We have one of those also.
You can ASK people to use unscented but hands get very dry at work so your request, as is, is unreasonable and selfish. You are not the only one who has to pay bills. You can, again, ASK people to use unscented but whether they do or not is really up to them. Perhaps if you asked nicely without attitude they would agree to do so...every job I ever worked people used hand lotion, it is a necessity.
you sound a little bitter over some hand lotion. Dirk's right, sorry. i use fragranced hand lotion and am not about to stop. it's just lotion, it doesn't flow into the air like perfume. ouch! suffer, huh?
I agree. But hey, it gets worse. How about those chicks with cheap perfume that doesn't go with their body chemistry and they go around stinky all day and you have to gag everytime they pass you. YUKE!
Oh sure, no prob. I don't even use lotion!
I don't use these lotions and potions either. I think I must be in the vast minority. It must be miserable for you. You probably don't want to say this to people in the office for fear that they will think you are just trying to cause problems.
Yes, of course the whole world will revolve around you. If you have allergies that severe then I feel bad for you, it must be rough, but I'm sorry to inform you that everyone else does not have to conform to what makes YOU comfortable. The most that you can ask is that they be considerate and basically not smear a handful of lotion across your upper lip, but what they want to apply to their own bodies is their business.
