My daughter put perfumed hand lotion on a CornNut and then gave it to her brother, who got sick from it...?

My daughter is 10 and my son is 12. My son has a condition that causes him to have severe abdominal pain when exposed to chemicals (Porphyria).

My daughter did purposely put the lotion on the CornNut but she seemed to feel bad when her brother got sick. I just don't get it, if she didn't mean to make him sick, then why would she do it in the first place? She is a very bright girl so it is hard for me to believe that she didn't see this coming

I didn't punish her, but I did have a serious talk with her about never doing something like this again. I have no idea if I handled this right or not. Opinions? My daughter put perfumed hand lotion on a CornNut and then gave it to her brother, who got sick from it...?
Spanking her isn't going to cut it. That's just going to make her resent her brother!!

You did the right thing, you want to tell her what the consequences of her actions would be for her brother. Also drive the point home that it could have a terrible outcome. and she wouldn't like it if this was being done to her!!

I hope your son is ok!!My daughter put perfumed hand lotion on a CornNut and then gave it to her brother, who got sick from it...?
Well she purposely did it but since she feels bad you can pat yourself on the back. She is not a sociopath. Often children really don't know the extent of their actions until they reap the consequences. Glad hes okay.
I've a feeling seeing him get sick as a result of her actions might be all the scare she needed to get the message but no you handled it exactly right.A good talking to is far better, spanking is bad parenting tbh.
You should have spanked her. What if she does something like that at school? I like to clown around and act silly but I know it isn't funny to make some one sick. If she does something like that again you need to spank her.
If she was my daughter, she would of gotten a spanking.

When a child causes harm to herself or anyone,

a spanking is called for.

Sorry, you handled it wrong.
Oh my.

I hate to say it, but some form of punishment is called for.

Also, I'm somewhat of an expert in this area. You are spending a lot of time with your son. I know it's absolutely necessary, but your daughter still sees it as time you are with him and not her. You need to make extra time for her. Take her out to the movies or dinner, just you and her.

My sister had similar issues over the amount of extra time I needed as a child
