Yes, the scent will be apparent, even you don't feel it as our olfactory sensors get used to our own smell as quick as after a few seconds after applying the lotion (or perfume). But be careful with using these scented lotions as the fragrances used tend to unbalance the skin's natural PH and apparently speeding up the aging process.
At least check that the product is alcohol free.

Yes, but the effect will be much lighter. If it is going to be an intimate evening the lotion is very nice idea, cause only someone real close to you will smell it. Lotion adheres to you skin longer.
I always find the body lotion smell lasts longer. maybe only apply it where you would put the perfme though. As another answer says they can dry your skin. Or use an unscented body lotion first.
